Although I have noticed lots of news stories on the breastfeeding doll over the last week or so, I have ignored them until now. This doll (pictured below) actually popped up in the news some time ago when it was first launched but actually has now been launched in the US which is why it is news again. Ok, so I watched a video of the breastfeeding doll on YouTube. I read some of the articles and this is what I think. Little girls like to mimic their mummies. My 2 ½ year old Lily (pictured above) likes to feed her babies with an assortment of wooden, plastic and fabric food. She likes to charge around the house her dolls hanging out of her buggy and with three handbags across her body (just like mummy!) Had she watched a younger sibling being breastfed then I am sure she would be breastfeeding her dolls too. Little girls copying their mums is nothing new and there are little girls all over the world who will copy their mums breastfeeding their baby siblings by feeding their dolls too. Do they need an electronic doll that makes sucking sounds and a halter top with flower nipples to do this? No, I don’t think so. It’s not something that I would buy but then I wouldn’t buy a crying or weeing doll either! Some of the comments in the media have been a little over the top but then perhaps they are the people who would be tutting at breastfeeding mums in cafes anyway. I think perhaps if it didn’t come with the bra top it wouldn’t be so controversial. See for yourself here The Breastfeeding doll What do you think?
