It’s quite a big thing really, when your bump really is a bump and normal clothes no longer fit quite right. But choosing maternity clothes can be a little daunting, especially if you’re working too and need a new wardrobe for the office. We asked you what your top tips for choosing maternity wear were, and it seems the answer is unanimous: maternity wear needs to be comfortable, affordable and durable. Lots of you told us that spending a fortune on maternity wear was either not possible, or not worth it, seeing as the longest you’re likely to be wearing it is around six months. With this in mind, we’ve put together a few tips to choosing outfits, along with some of our favourite buys currently!
These are the items that are likely to be getting the most wear, so you might want to invest in a couple of pairs of comfortable jogging pants and a few vests. Go for vests with ruched sides as they grow with the bump, and choose loose bottoms that you can lounge in! We love this combo from Next’s maternity range– the pink is a hot colour right now, and the style of the pants suit almost any shape. Who says jogging bottoms can’t be stylish?
This is another outfit you want to be extra comfortable in! There’s nothing wrong with borrowing your partner’s t-shirts but sometimes you it’s nice to treat yourself. Pregnancy can play havoc on your hormones and feeling confident and beautiful sometimes takes a little work as your body changes and grows. We love the range at Amoralia because they’re so pretty and functional too. The nightie and cami top can be worn for nursing also and the cardi is a lovely alternative to a traditional dressing gown.
It’s worth investing in a good pair of maternity jeans- a pair that will see you through your pregnancy in style and comfort. We love these ankle grazers from Asos, especially teamed with the over-sized t-shirt. Wear with a chunky knit like this when it gets a little cooler. Make sure you try different styles of maternity jeans- some have the side expanders, and some go for over the bump bands. It’s up to you which feel most comfortable.
Going out dresses
We’ve fallen in love with three dresses from Envies De Fraises! Every girl likes to look and feel nice when they go out and it is no different at all when you’re pregnant. These dresses are beautiful because they flatter the blooming Mama-to-be and fit closely to the bump, curves and all. Which one is your favourite?
It’s important to feel comfortable at work but it’s most likely you can’t go in to the office in your jogging bottoms! Try to choose a few key pieces that can be mixed and matched and worn with accessories such as chunky necklaces and bracelets. We love this pencil skirt and vest top combination from Isabella Oliver. This can be worn with a blazer like this for an ultra modern, smart look.
