What is the ideal nursery temperature?
The ideal nursery temperature is 18 degrees. You can use a nursery thermometer to check this. You may need to use central heating or a fan to achieve this temperature dependent on the weather.
You should dress your baby according to the weather for sleep. A vest or even just a nappy in the summer and a sleepsuit and vest in the winter if your nursery is 10-15 degrees. You need to remember that your baby is not able to remove layers. It is better that you err on the side of caution as it can be dangerous to put too many layers on your baby.
Baby sleeping bags are ideal for helping to keep your baby at the right temperature all night. They can’t kick off the covers and the armholes allow air to circulate which can prevent overheating.
Whilst 18 degrees is the ideal, it may not be possible to achieve this temperature all year round. For a nursery temperature of 10-20 degrees we recommend using a 2.5 tog baby sleeping (this would be a Babasac with the inner layers in), for a nursery temperature of 10-15 degrees with pj’s or a sleepsuit,15-20 degrees a long sleeved bodysuit, a sleepsuit or lightweight pj’s) 19-20 degrees 1.0 tog (a Babasac baby sleeping bag with the inner layers removed). For use in warmer weather or nursery temperature 21-23 degrees (with a short sleeve bodysuit or vest).
