I have trawled the internet to search all the forums for the best washable wipes tips. If you have any more I would love to hear them!
Wipe solution:
Washable wipes can be kept moist in a tupperware container with water and a drop of essential oil. Either lavendar or tea tree oil but this must be diluted. It is recommended not to use essential oil until your baby is
Some people recommend using chamomile tea to moisten them.
You can add a spoonful of olive oil for added moisture.
You can also fill a squirty bottle with the solution of your choice and squirt the dry wipe or squirt your babies bottom.
You can keep the solution in a bowl next to the changing station and dampen each wipe for use if you prefer.
Make sure you dry after washing rather than keep them damp as apparently this can make washable wipes smell.
“To a pint of water I add a tablespoon of olive oil(fab for skin), a squirt of baby shampoo (cuts through the oil and aids cleaning, we use organic chemical free shampoo), a squirt of honey(known for its anti-bacterial properties), 4 drops of lavender oil, 4 drops of tea trea(again anti-bacterial) and a camomile teabag. Pour on boiling water and mix, I then pour this over my wipes in a tupperware tub. Last me two days, covers 12 ish wipes.” Mumsnet.
Use a dry wipe after using a wet wipe to dry your babies bottom. We reommend Kokoso Coconut oil afterwards to protect.
Some recommend only soaking for a day at a time so they don’t get a damp smell.
Cleaning
Some people recommend rinsing immediately (or as soon as is possible) and then soaking in a bucket until you can wash them with tea tree or similar. This will help to ensure they wash as best as possible.
“I soak everything in water with tea tree oil, vinegar and bicarb until the evening when I wash them.” (Mumsnet)
You can wash the wipes up to 60 degrees. This ensures they are hygienically clean, however they have been used.
If you prefer to wash at a lower temp, make sure you use an anti bacterial laundry product.
Some prefer to use disposables for poo and washable wipes for everything else but it really is up to you! There is no reason that you cannot use washable wipes for everything.
They can be tumble dried or line dried. Line drying in the sunshine acts to keep them nice and bright!
Let me know if you have any more good tips!
