Another Place, Ullswater, The Lake District. We have been fans of the beautiful Lake District having holidayed there since childhood and having been there with and without children, since they were babies, staying in everything from cottages, hotels, guest houses to huge properties for our entire extended family. When holidaying with the kids you needn’t forgo a bit of luxury and having stuff to entertain them is a huge bonus, particularly as the great British weather can never be relied upon!
We were delighted to try out the new Another Place spa (Swim Club), newly opened, the perfect place to celebrate my boyfriends birthday (and the last time to getaway as a couple pre baby)! This is the same family as the Watergate Bay in Cornwall and has everything you might expect or want from a grown up holiday or weekend away where children (and dogs!) are welcomed. Yay! I can safely say we spotted lots of bumps, babies, toddlers and dogs during our visit there.
They say… “On the shores of Ullswater and set in 18 acres of National Park, The Lake is the perfect base from which you can discover the Lake District. The original Georgian building blends with a new, modern wing – the interiors inspired by views of the lake and fells.
The Lake has 40 bedrooms, including suites, family and dog-friendly rooms, as well as two restaurants, a library, gathering spaces, a Kids Club with outdoor space, treatment rooms, a cardio room and a 20-metre indoor infinity pool. The grounds include our private lakeshore and finger jetty, a lawned garden, a vegetable patch and herb garden, a walnut grove and a sheep’s field.”
We were lucky enough to try out the Swim Club and spa for a day and it did not disappoint! Contemporary style with a backdrop of the stunning Lake District scenery, I was in heaven for the day in spite of the March drizzle. It wasn’t supposed to be my babymoon but at 26 weeks pregnant it was the perfect relaxing getaway, so I certainly claimed it as that and I can honestly say I felt the most relaxed I had in the last 6 months. We each had a treatment and can highly recommend the full body massage (him) and the “drench” facial which was by far the best one I have ever had! The spa itself is fabulous, the decor is stunning, love the branding of the products and the whole look and feel of the space.
If you are going with little ones you might want to try out the Kids Club while you have a cheeky massage or swim. We were on our break without children but I can happily say, this would definitely be the ideal place for a couples break or a family holiday, there really is something for everyone and there were lots of little ones and babes there enjoying the pool and the restaurant.
We had lunch in the restaurant (tip is to bring your own flip flops as they don’t provide slippers, which of course we did not hence robes and trainers for lunch!). The food was really good (especially the burger!), the restaurant relaxed enough that we felt comfortable being the only ones in our robes and we sat with a gorgeous view of the lake in the sunshine as one half of the room is glass.
The location, in beautiful Ullswater, means there are loads to do whether you want something more active or a more gentle pace. We spent some time exploring the countryside and lakeside towns. I have actually been on holidays like this when the little ones were babies and used a baby carrier and a toddler backpack (great workout!) We have also been at all times of year and experienced every weather type imaginable!
I would highly recommend Another Place and we will definitely be back, with the children and for a longer stay next time!
(We were gifted this day pass at Another Place in return for our review.)
