For maternity and beyond… because it makes sense! Here’s my pick of some Spring / Summer dresses from some lovely independent brands and a few from the high street that you can wear in pregnancy and beyond. I’ve chosen dresses that are not maternity, so some may not fit you right till the end, unless you size up.
Daughters of India is an Australian brand who make beautiful floaty dresses which are handmade and block printed in India. They are both bump and breastfeeding friendly and they are absolutely stunning. This is my absolute favourite but I love everything they do. Shipping time from AUS takes a couple of weeks.
A floaty summer dress is perfect when you are pregnant, not only is it cool but I think I always feel more ‘together’ in a dress. Yet it’s a whole lot less effort. Pair with secret leggings on cooler days. For those dresses that aren’t as breastfeeding-friendly, how about adding cycling shorts or leggings and lifting up to feed.
Marie and Lola – French brand Marie & Lola have lots of beautiful dresses but I love this one for a summer with white trainers or with sandals. Available in blue, lilac or green and white. Pictured above
Oest, London – I love Oest, their store is full of gorgeous summer colours and lots of my fave gingham. This is the Emilia dress. If you fancy something shorter, this is perfect. I love this checked light blue gingham babydoll dress with pockets. The dress comes in 3 colours light blue, mint green and pink. You can shop in person (Commercial Street, London or online.)
We are old friends of Turtle Dove and they recently added mama pieces to their gorgeous children’s wear brand. This 2 looks in 1 Crinkle Stripe dress is the perfect lightweight piece for bump and beyond. This is technically more of a tunic and extra bonus it is reversible and has handy poppers for breastfeeding. And you can twin with your little one as they have matching for mini’s!
Tallulah and Hope make the most stunning dresses. There are several that would work well with a bump but I love this Juliet one, which has a low v so could also be breastfeeding friendly. There are also a few longer versions that are shown with a tie belt but could be worn without during pregnancy.
This Paris shirt dress from Danish Brand Project AJ117 is a modal and silk blend but feels like silk. Paris is a long shirt dress in tie dye with loose fit, long sleeves, buttons all way down and pockets at side. They actually have quite a few gorgeous dresses that will work from bump to beyond (short and long). They do have some UK stockists or you can buy direct from their website.
This dress is from lovely Suffolk brand Stoned & Waisted. All her dresses are handmade in the UK. This dress as seen here on Erica Davies will last you from maternity and beyond. This is more of an investment piece but I reckon it’s worth saving for. It also comes in a few different colourways.
I wanted to add a few options to suit different budgets so here is my pick of the high street.
Lots of wide shirt dresses at H&M. Perfect for bump, breastfeeding and then beyond. I also loved this denim dress.
Long striped sundress £29.99. This one would need to be pulled up slightly to fit nicely over your bump, so the ruching is over the chest. Wide straps are good for hiding a breastfeeding bra!
This Monki shirt dress is £30 and comes in a variety of prints. Buttons so perfect for feeding. My fave are the stripes or tie-die.
Hope you liked this little shopping edit!
