I thought that it would be really useful to share some of our customer’s journeys to reusable pads. Making the switch isn’t always an easy decision and some people may initially think reusable pads aren’t their thing or have some doubts. I want to tell you that this is completely normal. Lots of people feel like this at first. Lots of people have preconceptions about reusable pads (pads for periods or resuable pads for bladder leaks.) The vast majority of people come back to us and tell us they wish they had made the switch sooner as it has been such a big and positive change for them. Today we hear from Kayla…
“When I decided to switch from disposable sanitary pads to reusable ones, it came from two places. One I wanted to start doing more for the environment but the other was because the disposable pads irritated my skin, it was only when I learned about the chemicals that are in the plastic that form the pads that I decided I was going to embrace this lifestyle change. If you think about it, those toxic plastics are in contact with the most sensitive and delicate part of you, so why would anyone want to carry on using them? It also adds to the plastic load on our delicate environment, I just couldn’t use them anymore.
It took probably about two cycles to get use to washing out my blood from the pads. I actually found it quite fascinating that you could smell the iron in the blood, how amazing is the body? This might put you off, but this is such a natural process of the body and it is part of you, so don’t fear it or feel that it’s disgusting.
The other part of using reusables that I noticed at first was that I didn’t feel as dry as you would with a normal pad but I figured out that I just wasn’t changing the pad enough, which is why I bought another two boxes two cycles in. Nine pads get me through my whole period now and I feel dry.
I feel like, we are returning to the times of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers and how they did things. Funny that, how we return to certain ways of life because we realise that they just did some things better. I just could not go back to using disposables again!”
Thank you for sharing your story Kayla. If anyone has any questions regarding our washable sanitary pads whether for bladder weakness, for periods, as a post natal maternity pad or daily as a reusable pantiliner, please get in contact. xx
